The Bentley Mulsanne spent a decade as the flagship of Bentley's range. One of the world’s finest handmade cars, representing the ultimate combination of both luxury and performance.
First unveiled at Pebble Beach in 2009, the Bentley Mulsanne was named after the 'Mulsanne’ corner from the world renowned Le Mans race circuit. Carrying the lineage of the Arnage, the Mulsanne pushed the envelope further in terms of power, comfort and personalisation. Throughout its 10-year production, some 7, 900 examples were built at the Crewe assembly facility, with each being hand-built by a total of 298 personnel, over a 200-hour time frame.
Powered by the now iconic twin-turbo 6. 75 litre V8 engine, the Mulsanne accelerates from 0-60mph in 5. 1 seconds and on to a top speed of 184mph, utilising its 505bhp and 752lb ft of torque.
The example presented here, is a 2014 model finished in an elegant two-tone paint scheme of Tungsten over Onyx. The interior features a culmination of luxurious materials including full ’Linen’ coloured leather seating with quilted centres and dark blue piping, a duo-tone steering wheel and dashboard, front and rear centre consoles and quilted door cards. In addition, Piano Black veneers compliment the leather, with a Beluga Black carpet set with lambswool rugs offering substantial comfort underfoot.
The technology in this Bentley is nothing short of comprehensive. The front seats adjust fully and electrically (14-way with memory), and are of course heated with a massage function. A central screen serves as the base for navigation, radio, media, phone and vehicle settings. The screen can be hidden behind a Piano Black veneer panel if desired, leaving just the lower panel to adjust essential controls. A large glass sunroof panel sits above the front half of the cabin, with deployable shade cover.
The luxury continues to the rear, with passengers enjoying individual headrest mounted screens connected to the 6-disc DVD player. Between the seats, a central console provides controls for seat adjustments (10-way adjustable with memory), air-conditioning, heated seat settings and a massage function. An additional remote control is available to control radio and media settings. The rear doors and window feature deployable sun-shades that can be controlled with the press of a button, providing shade or additional privacy.
Returning to the exterior, the car rides on 21-inch two-piece Mulliner alloy wheels. The bonnet features the famous ‘Flying B’ radiator mascot sitting above the dominant bright finished stainless steel ‘Matrix’ style grille. The stainless-steel bright finishing continues with ‘Flying B’ wing vents and door pillars. All four doors feature the soft-close latching, with the boot featuring a power close function.
