Following the launch of the original Ducati 916 Strada in 1994, higher performance models were not long in coming, commencing with the 916 SP which featured a host of improvements to the engine. As a result the SP produced 126bhp (later 131bhp) compared with the base-model Strada's 114bhp (later 109bhp), while on the chassis side there was an Öhlins rear shock absorber and numerous carbon-fibre body panels and other components. Weight came down to 422. 4lb and the top speed increased to 168mph. The 916 SP was manufactured for two years only, with 310 built in 1994 and 401 in 1995.
Our vendor purchased this Ducati 912 SP from Lappe Motorentechnik of Geseke, Germany in August 1994. The machine comes with its original guarantee booklet in the vendor's name recording its first service in October 1994 at 950km (the current odometer reading is 2, 666km). The battery is flat so it has not been possible to determine whether or not the engine runs; accordingly, a full service and careful recommissioning is advised before further use. The Ducati comes with a file of documentation (in German) to include a certificate of authenticity; DEKRA correspondence; Fahrzeugschein and Fahrzeugbrief registration documents. It should be noted that the frame number is incorrectly recorded as '000493' on some of these documents. The machine also comes with an owner's manual; (copy) workshop manual; and two keys.
