Description
An iconic car, from an iconic time, and offered for sale today as part of the “Chiltern Collection” – a accolade reserved for the very best Aston Martins.
Launched in 1992, the V550 was a sensation. With nearly 80% more power than the Virage, the V550 boasted the most powerful production engine in the world (550 BHP & 550 lb ft of torque) and the largest brakes fitted to a road car.
The near 200mph top speed and 0-60 time of 4. 5 seconds, contrasted heavily with the opulent leather and walnut trimmed cabin. A significant car then, which set a new standard for super cars in the 1990’s and rightly gave the Italians cause for concern.
This 1997 example was converted by Aston Martin Works to V600 specification in 1998 – now a 200mph machine - and retains its stunning British Racing Green and Tan interior with Forest Green Piping and Fir Green carpets; arguably the best colour combination for a supercharged Vantage.
The V600 package includes an uprated engine which now produces 600HP, larger brake discs with circumferential cooling grooves plus AP racing callipers, reworked suspension with Eibach springs, adjustable Koni’s and a stiffer anti-roll bar. This car also benefits from the optional traction control.
When being converted to V600 specification, the owner specifically requested access to sixth gear be retained with the short shift gearbox conversion. This is often considered the better fit for this car.
The car has remained in single family ownership since 1998 and has been serviced and maintained with Aston Martin Works throughout.
