Vehicle history:
Producing one of the world's best sports cars seemed to be one of the best ways to gain worldwide recognition for the new government in Spain. However, with the help of the former Hispano-Suiza plant in Barcelona and an extremely talented former Alfa Romeo engineering team led by Don Wifredo Ricart, the Pegaso Z-102 was born, becoming one of the most extraordinary cars ever produced. The Z-102 featured an innovative chassis with load-bearing interior panels and a five-speed gearbox, with the engine mounted directly on the bulkhead, resulting in a 50/ 50 weight distribution. The suspension took advantage of the best ideas of the time, with a torsion bar double wishbone suspension at the front and a De-Dion rear axle. The greatest technical marvel of the Z-102 was the all-alloy V8 engine, arguably the most advanced road car engine ever produced. It has 32 valves actuated by four gear-driven cams. It is also lubricated by a dry sump system. The only two purchased components are Weber carburetors and Bosch solenoids.
This wonderful vehicle with chassis number 28 is a rare example of Series I and has an original 2. 8-liter engine. This Z-102 was delivered as a new car with a Superleggera body by Touring (the same completely original body it still has today) and was the exhibition car at the 1954 Salon de Torino. The first owner, Rodolfo Bay from Spain, registered the car in his name in the same year. At the beginning of the 1960s, after two more owners, the Pegaso passed to Fritz Schlumpf from Mulhouse. The car has been owned by a Spaniard again for 17 years and has since been exhibited several times at various events and trade fairs.
