VEHICLE OVERVIEW
Lamborghini’s best-selling model, the Gallardo, was introduced in 2003 and remained in production for an impressive ten years until 2013, when it was succeeded by the Huracán. Over its decade-long lifespan, the Gallardo became an iconic model, cementing its place in Lamborghini's history as one of the brand’s most recognisable supercars.
The Gallardo followed Lamborghini’s signature two-seat, mid-engined layout, renowned for delivering an engaging driving experience. It was initially equipped with a 5. 0-litre, naturally aspirated V10 engine, producing a remarkable 493bhp. This engine was later upgraded in 2008 to a 5. 2-litre version with an odd-firing configuration, boosting power output and giving the second-generation models (2008-2013) a distinct sound and character.
First-generation models produced up to 513bhp from 2006, sending power to all four wheels, providing the car with exceptional traction and handling. Buyers could choose between two transmission options: a 6-speed gated manual, known for its satisfying mechanical precision and iconic ‘click-clack’ sound, or the 6-speed ‘E-Gear’, an electro-hydraulically actuated single-clutch automatic system. While the E-Gear was quicker to shift than the manual, it was often criticised by period reviewers for its somewhat abrupt gear changes. On the other hand, the gated manual became the favourite among purists, celebrated for its precise, tactile feel and engagement.
