The 1989 BMW Z1 is an iconic roadster produced in limited numbers, with only about 8, 000 units manufactured between 1989 and 1991. It was the first model in BMW's Z series (Z stands for "Zukunft," meaning "future" in German), and it features some innovative design and engineering choices that made it stand out.
It is best known for its retractable doors. Instead of swinging outward like traditional car doors, the doors slide vertically down into the body.
