This is a very rare car, just 290 MK2 Deluxe models are known to have been built and according to recent data this is just one of four know roadworthy examples in the UK. This particular example was built on the 22-24th May 1962 so a very late car. It was built for the export market and was equipped with Dunlop Centre lock disc wheels (according to records only 2500 sets were manufactured for the twin cam and deluxe models), four wheel disc brakes, a heater and close ratio gearbox. The MGA came back to the UK in 1998 and was completely restored to a very high standard and just 1100 miles have been completed since.
Having covered very little mileage since a full nut and bolt, body off restoration the MGA still presents beautifully. The bodywork is of an excellent standard, shut lines and gaps are very good and the paint finish impressive. The painted chassis is outstanding, the underbody excellent and the car is beautifully finished with stunning chrome work, its original Dunlop wheels and full weather equipment. During restoration the MGA was subject of a brake and suspension overhaul, new wiring loom and various re-conditioned ancillaries. The engine was also rebuilt, as was the rear axle and the car upgraded with a brand new Type 9 five speed gearbox. The MG also features other subtle upgrades to include custom made wheel arch protectors and the underside wood panelling has been protected by waterproof perspex panels.
The MGA has come to us as its recent owner is leaving the UK and in anticipation of us collecting the car, he has had the car prepared for sale. The MG has been converted to a 12 volt negative earth system and batteries have just been replaced, the MGA has also had a new choke cable, fuel sender unit, fuel gauge and new static seat belts and an invoice totaling £1968. 60 is with the file. XSJ 370 is a stunning example, its beautifully presented throughout with a gleaming finish and the interior has nicely aged in the many years since restoration. On the road the MGA is outstanding, it holds the road exceptionally well, its precise, tight and very responsive. The rebuilt engine is strong holding excellent oil pressure, cooling is correct and the five speed gearbox enhances the car and offers a brilliant driving experience. The gearbox upgrades certainly improves the car for longer distance touring but whether this is a car for local use, shows, events or some serious touring, it will certainly prove a brilliant buy.
