Description
Since its unveiling in December of 1989, the Maserati Shamal has always been hypnotically unusual. From its windshield spoiler and slanted rear wheel arch design to its subrame engine front bumper access, the Shamal was created to be exclusive. Sculptured by Marcello Gandini, its testosteronic presence is immediately evident in the pronounced contrast of its muscular fenders to its square low mounted nose of multi-headlight arrangement. Its mid mounted gray roll bar provides torsional strength to handle the temper of its twin turbo V8 bursts to the rear wheels via the Getrag 6-speed manual gearbox. Built to be under the control of the driver, it lacks any electronic assistance systems and is equipped with console-mounted selector of 4 different suspension settings. Its vicious acceleration and top speed rendered the Shamal the fastest Maserati of its era, substantiating being named under a hot summer Mesopotamian windblast. Aside from constituting an array of visual, auditory and tactile stimuli, the Shamal is also historically significant for displaying core elements of the Italian automotive school of design shared by exclusives as the Cizetta, Pantera 90Si, Countach, as well as the twin turbo V8 arrangement shared by the 288 GTO and F40. Moreover the Shamal was the last Maserati inspired, created and built by the people of Maserati.
The Shamal presented was produced in September of 1991 to be the 86th of the 369 ever to be constructed and the only one officially dispatched to Greece. After 18 years, it became part of a private collection to be treated to a respray to its original Rosso Maserati and a full retrim in Pelle Beige Novulari. Carefully preserved and fully serviced it is now offered in exceptional condition with Maserati Certificate of Origin, FIA Historic Vehicle Certification and MoT records.
