Lot 111
Formerly the property of Arthur Lampkin
1953 BSA 499cc BB34 Gold Star Trials
Registration no. NOE 139
Frame no. BB32R 0111 (see text)
Engine no. BB32. GS. 132 (see text)
This Gold Star trials bike's 'NOE 139' registration is a BSA factory number issued in Birmingham in 1953 and used on works rider John Draper's mount. Other notable features include a Lucas competition magneto, Dunlop saddle, and a Lyta fuel tank. The machine was previously registered overseas. The accompanying original logbook (issued January 1953) lists five owners, the last being Messrs A & A Lampkin. There is a letter on file from Arthur Lampkin stating that he owned the BSA until late in 1991. Our vendor acquired the machine on 21st October 1991. Also on file are old/ current V5/ V5C documents and an HPI check sheet. It should be noted that both the HPI and V5C list the frame number as 'BB32R111' and the engine number as ‘BB34GS132’. It should also be noted that the frame number 'BB32R 0111' has been over-stamped, as has the engine number 'BB32. GS. 132': the 'Z' has been obliterated, 'B' added and the '132' serial number is over-stamped also. Accordingly, prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves with regard to the authenticity - or otherwise - of this motorcycle prior to bidding. Last taxed until 31st August 2013 and last MoT'd to 16th September 2023, the machine should require only minimal recommissioning before returning to the road.

All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
