EXTERIOR
This wonderful face lift example is finished in beautiful Carbon Black metallic – a subtle yet fresh colour that despite it’s name appears almost dark blue dependent upon light and angle; it really embodies the understated silhouette that BMW fans have come to love.
Considering the two tone effect of the paint, the factory tints promote the visual contrast further whilst presentation is excellent with none of the usual E39 problem areas or defects to arches, sills or boot.
The paintwork shows very few stone chips to the front of the car and all of the plastic trim on the car is in good condition; retaining factory colour and finish with B pillars in particularly good order.
INTERIOR
This E39 comes with the popular Silverstone grey/ black leather interior which perfectly offsets the Carbon black paintwork. The front seats have no wear to the bolsters or cracks in the leather whilst the dash is furnished with dark brushed extended aluminium trim; a welcome addition in brightening up the cabin area.
All of the electrics work as they should, thankfully with no pixilation problems alongside the info screen binnacle and the rest of the switchgear appearing bright and clear in operation. Cruise Control, Heated Seats and an Electric Sunroof ensure that Grand Touring in comfort and style are top of the agenda – not many M cars do it better.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Pop the bonnet on the M5 and you are presented with the mighty M Power V8 engine. This M5 has a beautifully clean engine bay and combine this with the comprehensive paperwork it is evident that this S62 has been maintained to a high standard. The Getrag Type D six-speed manual transmission is tight, precise and perfectly matched to the performance of the V8 with a broad operating bracket ensuring the car feels both dynamic and alive, although with huge torque on offer the engine doesn’t have to be overly worked to achieve considerable performance.
The balance of chassis, powertrain and engine characteristics work to create an incredible combination of performance and poise – a key reason behind the continued success and popularity of the E39.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Recently refurbished 18″ M5 alloy wheels look fantastic and are completely mark free in factory dark chrome. Continental rubber adorns all four corners showing plenty of tread depth.
The brake discs are all in good condition with minimal wear ensuring the car responds as it should with no adverse pitch, pull or drone.
HISTORY FILE
This stunning facelifted S62 was first delivered in December of 2001 by the Eastern Motor Company and would return for it’s running-in check in February the following year with its first owner. Now with its second and current owner, this E39 M5 has been truely looked after with great attention to detail, covering only 16K miles in 16 years.
