A car we sold last year, we are pleased to welcome back one of the nicest early 986 Boxster S cars we've ever had. Here is the story of the car from last year...
"It's not very often we get to buy an early 986 Boxster from the person that ordered it new, but in this case we were lucky enough to meet the chap who bought his car 23 years ago from Carrs Porsche of Exeter. And what a car it is - an early Stuttgart-built 3. 2 S in one of our favourite colours Speed Yellow, with black leather, heated seats, automatic air conditioning and traction control (ASR and ABD, the forerunners to PSM).
Now with just 58, 651 miles showing on the odometer, the vast majority of which were covered by Mr Clark in the first 6 years, after which the car was used sparingly for a few more years until eventually being placed into a classic car storage facility from 2017 until earlier this year.
The cosmetic and mechanical condition is absolutely superb, showing the benefits of a car that has always been garaged - crystal clear headlight lenses, no fade to the black scuttle and door mirror plastics, and a super bright original finish to the Speed Yellow paintwork. On the road, W548XAR feels very fresh, with lovely balanced handling a supple and composed ride (once we had replaced the 15 year old tyres which unsurprisingly were a little hard!). Performance on tap from the 252bhp flat-six engine is generous, with plenty of torque in the midrange and lots of power (and an intoxicating noise) in the upper reaches of the rev range. The 6 speed manual gearbox is slick in operation, the clutch pedal weight just right, and the brakes are powerful and progressive with a nice firm pedal. In truth, it feels more like a 3 year old car than a 23 year old one, and a real credit to its single custodian.
We are preparing the car with a Major service, brake fluid change, spark plugs and auxiliary drive belt, and have already replaced the tyres."
