The third Generation of Ford’s ‘Pony Car’ is commonly referred to as the Fox body Mustang, due to the Fox platform it shared with other Lincoln, Ford and Mercury family models.
Introduced in 1979, the range was updated over its life. A convertible was added to the range of body styles in 1983, after an absence of nine years, while changes to the engine range followed the 1979 oil crisis, in the pursuit of greater fuel economy.
In 1987 the original quad-headlight frontal arrangement was replaced with an updated styling treatment featuring composite aerodynamic headlamps and front fascia, with the rear receiving similar modification. A comprehensive overhaul of the interior fitments and styling prepared the Mustang for the new decade, giving it a much more modern look.
The car:
Registered in 1992, this convertible model started life in the States before being imported into the UK in 2019. Since arriving on these shores, it has had one previous keeper in the UK.
This Mustang is powered by Ford’s 2. 3-litre inline four cylinder engine, with the revised twin-plug head for extra performance, coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. The vehicle is described as our vendor to be driving as it should, and it is still in regular use.
Finished in Ultra Blue over silver, the paintwork features black decals and is highlighted by the cream hood. The light mushroom interior has matching matching door cards and carpets.
The vehicle presents as it should, although there are some blemishes to the paintwork as would be expected of a car in its fourth decade of use and there is wear to the current hood, although a new one - along with tonneau cover - is included in the sale.
Features include steering wheel controls, air ventilation system, electric windows and mirrors along with a period radio and cassette.
This UK rarity will be sold complete with Mustang Fox 1992 owners guide, some paperwork and a box of spare parts including a clutch kit, timing belt, bearings, plugs, headlights, spare lights and more.
