In October 1952, at Earls Court, Donald Healey presented his latest prototype fitted with the Austin A90 four-cylinder engine. The car proved popular with BMC, who subsequently proposed mass production, leading to the launch of the Austin-Healey 100, which officially started rolling off the production line from May 1953.
The '100' was named by Donald Healey for its ability to reach a top speed of 100 mph, or 160 km/ h! The Austin-Healey 100/ 4 BN1 was equipped with a 2, 660cc four-cylinder engine producing 90 bhp and a three-speed gearbox. During a 1953 test of the BN1 model, the British magazine The Motor recorded the following technical specifications: a top speed of 171 km/ h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/ h in 11. 2 seconds, and a fuel consumption of 12. 6 litres per 100 km.
Produced only between 1952 and 1955, the Austin-Healey 100/ 4 BN1 is eligible to participate in prestigious races and rallies such as the Mille Miglia (coefficient 1. 35), the Tour Auto, Le Mans Classic, as well as numerous international events like rallies or Concours d'Elégance.
Built on January 17, 1955, this Austin-Healey 100 BN1 left the factory with Ice Blue paintwork and a blue interior. It was configured as a left-hand drive vehicle and equipped with factory-fitted options including a heater, laminated windscreen, and US specification lights, as it was destined for North American export.
This lovely Austin Healey is a matching numbers example, retaining its original engine and its 3-speed gearbox, believed to be the original one, as well as matching colours. Between November 2022 and December 2023, it underwent an extensive restoration, which included the chassis, bodywork, paint, mechanics, electrical system, carpets, and upholstery (except for the seats, which were in very good condition). Throughout its life, the car has been fitted with a type M louvered bonnet and leather strap.
The current owner maintains and drives the car regularly in dry weather. Additionally, it participated in the Rallye de Fougères in June 2023.
The car comes with its hood, tonneau cover, side screens, spare wheel, and bumpers, which have been kept off to maintain its sporty appearance. Stunning example, it is offered with its French registration document, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate with factory specifications and an Austin Healey 100 Service Manual.
