Description

For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® Series 2a Ragtop in Deep Bronze Green (1967).

Petrol 2286cc. MOT & Tax Exempt. Free Wheeling Hubs. Bonnet Mounted Spare. Deluxe High Back Front Seats. Seat Belt Bar. Rear Bench Seats. Heater with Demist. Recent Canvas. Recent Full Exhaust & Exhaust Manifold. Front Lifting Eyes. Very Strong History file with MOTs and service records back to 1986. Weber Carburettor. Winner of the Land Rover® 70th Anniversary Open Day Drive! 70, 047 miles on the odometer – MOT from 1987 shows 40, 715 miles on the clock – meaning just 30, 000 miles covered in 37 years – just 810 miles a year.

Here we have for sale this Land Rover® Series 2a, with a superb provenance in the most popular colour scheme, which is capable of carrying the entire family.

Externally, this has lots of features one would hope to see – the front lifting eyes, the vintage number plates, wing top mounted mirrors, rear grab handles, road biased tyres with matching bonnet mounted spare and a recent canvas. It has a pleasingly “stock” appearance, with the only notable later addition being a rear fog light, which is handy for safety and the colder/ darker months ahead. The bodywork is exactly as it should be and as the photos show – it is not a fully restored or brand new finish, but ideal for those who want to use their Land Rover®, and in light of this vehicles history (detailed below) – we didn’t think it “right” to pull it down to the shell, as we are sure a new owner would appreciate it as we do.

On the inside, there are three front deluxe high back seats, with deluxe matting in the footwells. A seat belt bar has been fitted to allow the fitment of 3 point safety belts, which is a nice touch and gives “plug and play” ability like one would associate with a modern Land Rover®. There is a heater fitted which also has front de-mist, which will be very useful as the weather cools. The rear houses twin bench seats to give seating for seven people including the driver, and there is a mat to the rear floor. Also fitted is a modern fire extinguisher, which one hopes will never be needed, but nice to have for safety purposes! What is also pleasing to note is that this vehicle has been previously re-wired.. which also includes setting all lights to come on with the ignition – meaning unlike other Series Land Rovers®, you cannot accidentally leave the side lights or headlights on and drain the battery… something which is easier to do than it sounds.

Out on the road is where this old girl really shines though – the paperwork file for this vehicle is large, and has its own box file – which includes both receipts for servicing and repair, and MOTs back to 1987… meaning we can say with certainty that it has only covered 810 miles a year for the last 37 years. Based on the driving experience, we’ve no reason to suspect that this Series has been “round the clock” – showing just 40, 715 miles back in 87. It delivers a pleasing period drive – larger wheels and tyres which are road biased mean good road holding, whilst a Weber Carburettor gives superior power over standard, and free wheeling hubs aid economy. As you can imagine – we drive and see a LOT of Series Land Rovers® and within the first few miles, we can always tell a vehicle which has been cared for well and which is low mileage – and that is exactly how this one feels. Everywhere you look, there is evidence of money spent on the “right” things… a new exhaust manifold and exhaust system, recent shockers, etc etc…. even in the file there is an award from Land Rover® for winning the 2018 Anniversary Open Day Drive.. in which it mentions beating out much more modern competition!

In summary then, if you are looking for a Series 2a which can carry the whole family, benefits from MOT & Tax Exemption (alongside classic insurance) and has strong, large history file, then this is well worth considering.
