Advertising on behalf of our customer this truly outstanding MK1 Cortina 1500 GT. Its not very often Ill stick my neck on the line or make bold claims about a car, but this has to be one of, if not the best available.
History - This car was registered new on 1st Nov 1966 from supplying dealer Johnston Stewart & Sons in Falkirk Scotland. It remained with members of the same family until 2021 covering only 21000 miles at that time. With the car, we have the original handbooks, service book showing 5 stamps all from the supplying dealer. This included the PDI and a further 4 services taking it up to 17350 miles in 1971. The car was kept in the same family but handed down and stored with very occasional use. I think it covered 700 Miles in 29 years. We have receipts old MOTs, photographs of the car as it was before it was all refreshed. We first got a call about the car in 2021. Given that it had only done 21000 miles and was totally original we couldnt get there quick enough. A deal was struck to buy the car and we knew that this one had to go to the right home. The current owner is a well known enthusiast in Scotland and has made an outstanding job of bringing this car back to life, whilst retaining originality wherever possible. The car has now covered 22000 miles and has won several awards at shows this year. The registration HWG 2D has been on it from new.
Body - Original shell and all original panels. When the current owner got the car it was totally original in terms of paint. but was showing a bit of wear and tear and a few areas of light surface rust appearing. The car was stripped to a shell and all surface rust treated. The underside was cleaned and given a light coat of stone guard and painted in body colour Dragoon Red. All panels are original and untouched. The exterior was painted at a professional bodyshop and its superb. This is one that actually as good in the flesh as in the pictures and simply must be seen. New front bumper. Original number plates were carefully taken apart, cleaned, painted and reassembled.
Mechanics - Again its all its original engine, gearbox, axle etc. During the refresh the engine was overhauled with all new seals, gaskets, a new timing chain and tensioner, new oil pump and filter, new water pump and thermostat, water hoses and clips were replaced, new clutch and slave cylinder. Clutch master was rebuilt, new coil, brake master cylinder rebuilt, new Lincoln Battery, Carb fullt rebuilt, new strut top bearings, steering drag bar, track rods, front bushes, front wheel bearings, discs and pads, steering box rebuilt, gearbox rebuilt, new brake pipes and hoses all round. Diff was overhauled, new rear cylinders and shoes, new hand brake cable, Car starts , runs and drives exactly as it should. Owner has covered a good few hundred miles since its refresh with no issues.
Interior - All totally original which was taken out cleaned, stored and put back in. Absolutely superb inside.
Wheels- Currently sitting on 5. 5J wide steels with new tyres but the original steels will go with the car.
