The second generation of the BMW 6 Series consists of the BMW E63 (coupe version) and BMW E64 (convertible version) grand tourers. The E63/ E64 generation was produced by BMW from 2003 to 2010. The Convertible (E64) was only offered between 2004 and 2005 and was unveiled at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show, and released in mid-2004. The Convertible models featured a non-conventional convertible top design with side fins and an integrated glass wind deflector that can be raised or lowered at any time. It offered an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/ h (155 mph).
During the design process to reduce weight, it was decided that the doors and bonnet should be made of aluminium, and the boot and front wings made of carbon-reinforced plastic. The smooth 4. 4 Litre V8 with 6-speed automatic transmission cruises effortlessly with an output of 245 kW (329 ps).
