For its ninth generation, the Eldorado became larger and more luxurious than ever before. First introduced in 1971, the new Eldorado was once again available as a convertible - the first since 1966. A 500ci (8. 2L) V8 was exclusive to the model, and Eldorados were available with nearly every period luxury feature available as standard or as an option.
Minor updates in 1972 and more substantial revisions in 1973 & 1974 ensured the car remained relevant on the sales floor. However, with incoming safety and emissions regulations, the excesses of the Eldorado were not to last. For 1976, GM announced production of the convertible and the large V8 would not continue past the model year. Their marketing department even went as far to call the car, "the last American convertible". Naturally, this ensured that any 1976 Eldorado convertible become an instant collectible. Today, they exemplify the finest GM had to offer in its era and make for a fantastic weekend cruiser.
