EXTERIOR
The Porsche 911 is an unmistakable shape, from todays 992 to the original 901 the heritage runs throughout the years and that timeless profile tells you everything you need to know; a truly classic motor car that spans generations.
The bodywork of this beautiful RS tribute is in superb condition following a jig-mounted renovation undertaken in 2018 by Tech 9 incorporating new floors, front inner wings and door hinge panels. This is in addition to the original work carried out in the ’90’s by Autofarm who attended to the kidney bowls and sills before installing a period correct bonnet, doors, front wings and genuine flared rear arches.
Starting life as a 1969 S model, this example has been lovingly restored and re-shaped as a tribute to the mighty 2. 7 RS with that famous Gulf Blue paintwork capturing the era perfectly.
INTERIOR
Inside the cabin there has been a total overhaul with competition and safety at the top of the agenda – as per Porsche Motorsport heritage.
Period bucket seats from Rennsport not only look the part but provide both comfort and support in equal measure, presenting in excellent condition complimented by multi-point Repas harnesses. Alongside installation of a Safety Devices roll cage, plumbed in fire suppression and an electrical isolator the dashboard remains largely original with the addition of battery cut-off and fire extinguisher buttons. The only real stand out, and a respectable addition considering modern day requirements, is a retro look Blaupunkt Frankfurt FM Vintage head unit that supports both Bluetooth streaming and handsfree connectivity.
A new headlining is complimented by lightweight door panels and carpet to complete the competition aesthetic.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original 2. 0 engine was replaced by a very special custom built motor installed in the late ’90s by Autofarm – rebuilt by the very same mechanic in 2017. Now at it’s heart, this 2. 9 litre unit features competition prepared 7R crankcases, 019 MFI fuel pump from a genuine RS, 93mm Mahle barrels / pistons, ‘S’ cams and a 10. 3:1 compression ratio. With recent work to the throttle bodies, CDI box and fuel pump the car is in rude health.
With just under 240hp, and correct fuelling dialled in on the rolling road, performance is flat 6 nirvana – all amplified wonderfully well by a SSi Exhaust system.
Now fitted with a 915 gearbox, complimented by a lightened flywheel, competition clutch and Quaife ATB differential, Neil Bainbridge stripped and rebuilt in 2022 just a few hundred miles ago.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
No RS look would be complete without a set of genuine Fuchs alloy wheels in lovely condition, staggered with 7 inches in front and 8 at the rear.
The braking system has been upgraded to 993 specification; reliable, robust and more than a match for the performance on offer.
HISTORY FILE
This RennSport special was originally delivered as a UK RHD 911 S in 1969. Although there is little early history on the car the paperwork trail from the 90’s onwards is significant; with each step of the early discussions and plans for the RS conversion featured right the way up to the present day.
During long term ownership over a 28 year period from 1993, this terrific tribute was stripped back and upgraded to RS specification by Autofarm in the 90’s with Josh Saddler overseeing the project. The intention for the car was to be competitive in the PCGB hillclimb / sprint series of the time, whilst remaining completely usable for the road. Pictures of the car prior to restoration, during and after are present in the history file alongside all invoicing for work carried out. The car was used and enjoyed for many years until in 2018 the car was shell dipped, e-coated and resprayed Gulf Blue – all overseen by aforementioned marque specialists Tech 9.
Over the last couple of years both Neil Bainbridge and Canford Classics have performed significant works at a cost of £30k to engine and drivetrain, with the car now on the button and ready to go. For those looking for an outstanding custom build with a whole host of bespoke features – look no further.
