Description

The Jaguar SS 100 is a British pre-war sports car with a long bonnet and long wings from the 1930s. Very sporty, very good-looking and very expensive. If you don't want to spend €350, 000, you can get a slightly slower but characteristically very similar car, an MG TA, for less than a tenth of the Jaguar price. The MG TA is a friendly pre-war English sports car, of which 3, 003 were built between 1936 and 1939. Because it is so much fun to drive and the technology is comparatively problem-free and inexpensive, it was appreciated by generations. First by new car buyers, then by used car buyers and 40 years later by the first classic car buyers. The MG TA is classic automotive engineering: an ash wood frame sits on a solid steel frame, which forms the body clad in sheet steel. It stands on historically correct tyres from the Blockley brand, which already supplied Bugatti. The doors still open forwards, the leather-upholstered seats are close together and the dashboard really is still a board. The dashboard is really still a board, on which the instruments and switches, which are operated by pulling or turning, are arranged in the most beautiful Art Deco style. The windscreen can be folded down, which increases the top speed by around 4 km/ h and the number of flies in your face by around six. The steering wheel has no less than twenty filigree spokes. The rev counter is the central instrument in front of the driver and the speedometer sits in front of the passenger. The hands of the clock integrated into the rev counter have been lost at some point. This is very fitting for a car that has been travelling the world seemingly untouched by time for 85 years. This MG TA on offer here was bought by its owner over 30 years ago. As the car - then almost 50 years old - was showing signs of wear and tear, it was technically restored by the owner couple. Instead of a Hermes handbag and a chic wristwatch, a rear axle was sometimes found under the Christmas tree. 33 years ago, the very MG TA offered here graced the cover of Motor Klassik issue 4, which praised this MG TA in a multi-page driving report for its "pure driving pleasure" and "attention to detail". The MG TA has reliably proven itself at numerous classic car rallies such as the Württemberg-Historic, the Stuttgart-Classic, in the Black Forest and at the Kitzbühl-Classic in the Alps. Where other classic cars stood at the side of the road with their radiators smoking, the MG TA, travelling at speeds of up to 125 km/ h, roared merrily past. No wonder its owners were happy with it for over 30 years. That is a sure indicator that it is a good car. After all, anyone who is annoyed with their car will sell it again after two years and this MG TA immediately makes a confidence-inspiring impression. It not only looks good and very well maintained. It also starts in just a few seconds, steers and shifts gears really well and is happy to be allowed out again. At €29, 900, it is amazingly good value for money and generates a really good return. Because the greatest return you can achieve with a classic car is the pleasure it generates per kilometre. And it's also about the people you will meet through it. No matter where you drive it, you will always find people who are interested in your pre-war roadster. € 29, 900 (sale on behalf of a customer)
