Oakmere are proud to present this beautifully restored Jaguar E-type. This Series 2 FHC in Cream with black upholstery was manufactured on the 26th February 1969; the car was ordered by Jaguar Cars South Africa but was delivered as a Personal Export Delivery on the 20th 1969 March with the Coventry registration number of UHP282G.
Ordering cars for Personal Export Delivery was a popular option at the time where new owners would collect their car in England, tour Europe and then ship the vehicle to South Africa with the Union Castle Line.
After arriving in South Africa in mid-1969 the car spent most of its life in the corrosion free Johannesburg area.
The current owner purchased the car from a large private collection in 2015 and relocated it to the even dryer climate of Gaborone in Botswana. The car was immediately recommissioned with fresh fluids, new front suspension bushes, brake pads/ hoses and water hoses. After enjoying the car for 3 years it was subjected to a full restoration in 2018, comprising: -
• Bare shell re-paint
• Retrim (reusing original trim where possible)
• Engine overhaul (to 9:1 compression ratio spec)
• Gearbox and final drive overhaul
• Replacement of suspension bushes not covered in the recommissioning
• Fitting of stainless-steel exhaust
The following upgraded parts were also fitted by the present owner: -
• Geared starter motor
• Modern spin on oil filter
• Battery cut out switch
• Rear brake remote “easy bleed” kit
• Fly wheel lightened
• 14” Mota Lita steering wheel (to suit taller drivers) – the original wheel comes with the car
