The Porsche 968, introduced in 1992, was the final evolution of Porsche's front-engine, four-cylinder sports cars, a lineage that began with the Porsche 924 in the late 1970s. The 968 was a significant upgrade over its predecessor, the Porsche 944, featuring a 3. 0-litre inline-four engine that was one of the largest four-cylinder engines of its time. It incorporated advanced technologies like variable valve timing (VarioCam) and a six-speed manual transmission. Despite its balanced performance, refined handling, and distinctive design, the 968 was produced only until 1995, with just over 12, 000 units made, making it a rare and sought-after model among Porsche enthusiasts. The stripped out, lightweight Club Sport was feted by motoring journalists in period and now commands strong money but arguably the smarter choice is the UK-only Sport which was effectively the same car (lower and firmer) with some of the creature comforts retained making it far more liveable day to day.

We are delighted to offer this 1995 Porsche 968 Sport in Black with black cloth interior. First registered in May 1995, it was sold to its second owner 2 years later and he kept the car for the next 27 years. Apparently, for the last 10 of those the car was dry stored and used sparingly as a weekend car. Our vendor, already a Porsche owner, purchased the car earlier this year and immediately set about getting it mechanically tip top, knowing that he would be taking it on a European trip over the Summer. As well as 4 wheel alignment (sensible for any sports car), he booked it into renowned Cheshire Porsche specialists, Unit Eleven where it received a full service which included the following:-

Clutch
Cambelt
Water pump
Oil, fuel and air filters
Spark plugs
Balance belt
Wheel studs
Oil and coolant

The total bill came to £3, 111. 93 but gave our client the peace of mind to undertake his trip, which passed without incident. However, he did realise that he preferred his 964 and has decided he doesn’t need two Porsches in his life.

Externally, the black paint is showing some signs of age related wear, namely a number of stone chips on the front bumper / bonnet and to the door edges, however, it remains a striking car with the handsome silver alloys contrasting nicely with the black. Inside the dash is in good order and the seats clean and free from any obvious damage. It’s pleasing to see original details remain like the Panasonic radio / cassette and rear luggage blind - these things so often go missing over the years.

The car comes with V5C, current and some previous MOTs, bundle of invoices for work / parts and full book pack in wallet.

The world has woken up to just how good and well balanced the front-engined “transaxle” Porsches are and what value they represent when compared to their 911 brethren. The 968 was the developmental peak of those transaxle cars but having sold in quite low numbers, few remain. This much sought after Sport model is apparently one of only 131 currently licensed on UK roads. With its recent expenditure, this 968 should be fighting fit and ready to go. Don’t miss out - you don’t know when the next one will come along!
