Description
Motodrome are pleased to offer this lovely 1969 example of the stately Rover P5b
All P5b’s, whether saloon (as this one) or Coupe, with the Rover V8 motor, automatic transmission, PAS, and decent brakes, are supremely useable in modern-day traffic
Looking very stately in it’s original colour of Arden Green, this one, apparently known as Winnie, won many prizes following a photographically-documented ‘nut and bolt’ restoration in the 1990’s by a long-term owner (1993-2006). It was also featured in several issues of the P5 club magazine in the early 2010’s.
Fitted with fitted with electric fuel pump, manual choke conversion, electronic ignition and a modern DAB radio with USB port, which is hidden in the centre dash storage. It’s also fitted with front headrests, and inertia reel front seat belts.
It also has a reproduction pennant holder on top of the grille as per the ministerial P5’s, although this one is not an ex-ministry car. The first owners were Barclays Bank at their then city headquarters, so it was probably the chairman’s chauffeur driven example.
Odometer reading 54000 miles although from the MOT history back to 1993 this is incorrect and is more likely to be 154000 miles in reality.
We have a massive history file going back to when it was found derelict in the early 1990’s, including, as above, 3 albums detailing the ‘nut and bolt’ restoration carried out. It seems the then long terms owner sold it in 2006 following health problems, and it then passed through 3 owners who let it deteriorate somewhat, to the extent that when it was purchased by a leading light in the P5 club around 2010, he deemed it worthy of another body restoration and a second full repaint.
I’m pleased to say that successive owners have kept it in the manner to which it was accustomed, and it still presents beautifully, with superb interior (seemingly renewed in the early 2000’s) and excellent chrome.
And it glides down the road as a P5b should, with nice-shifting automatic transmission and light power steering.
On our own website, you’ll find our usual comprehensive video package, which, along with the extensive pictures, form part of the description.
