A unique and very special classic car, that certainly applies to this very nice Volkswagen 181, or better known by the name Kübel. The characteristic model was initially produced by Volkswagen for the German Bundeswehr as a military off-road vehicle. The design was based on the Volkswagen Kübelwagen, which was used by the German Wehrmacht during the Second World War. In the early 1970s, the model came onto the market as a civilian car, under the name Volkswagen Type 181. But the car is often popularly called Kübel.
This Volkswagen 181, originally delivered in the Netherlands, is in exceptionally good condition. That makes sense, because the car has been completely body-off restored. And this restoration has been carried out very expertly and professionally. This is not only evident from the flawless bodywork, but also from the exceptionally hard and good-looking chassis. The warm white body colour forms a stylish combination with the cognac leather upholstery. Incidentally, an extensive photo report of the restoration is available with the car.
The bodywork has a beautiful deep shine and the body parts also fit together well. It is clear to see that the restoration has been carried out very well. The paintwork is of high quality. The various rubber and trim parts are also still in very good condition. The convertible top is completely new and fits very well. We have rarely seen such a particularly beautiful Volkswagen 181. Not only because of the beautiful color combination, but certainly also because of the exceptionally good condition.
This also applies to the interior. The seats have been completely reupholstered with stylish cognac leather upholstery. They are particularly comfortable and sturdy. In order to create sufficient legroom, the seats have been placed a little bit further back. Of course, with still enough space for the rear passengers. The simple dashboard is particularly neat to look at and in very good condition. The instruments work properly. The windshield can of course easily be folded forward.
The car has been maintained with great care and love. This is clearly visible and certainly noticeable when you drive this Volkswagen 181. The 1600 engine delivers 50 hp, which is more than enough for this light four-seater convertible. The brakes feel firm and good and the steering is also very smooth. The car also shifts very well and accurately. A simple and very special fun and affordable classic, in which you can make a relaxing tour with several people!
