The Rover Company was a British bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer before it began the manufacture of motor cars. Rover was established in 1878 by John Kemp Starley in Coventry to produce bicycles. The company developed and produced the Rover Imperial motorcycle in November 1902. Between 1903 and 1924, Rover produced more than 10, 000 motorcycles.
This c. 1918 Rover has been in the late vendor's ownership for the last 20-plus years and part of his collection of early machines. It was restored by a Mr. Rose from the Isle of Man during the 1990s, with many photos of the restoration. There is a box file with many handwritten notes from a number of Rover owners during the period of its restoration. It has not been used for some time and will need recommissioning before it is placed back on the road. There is no 'formal' documentation, however, there is a box file of sundry paperwork and notes. Please note the registration on this machine is not allocated to it it is for another machine.
