TR7 Roadster – 5 Speed Box/ Stunning/ ULEZ Exempt
The Triumph TR7 sports car penned by Harris Mann was manufactured from September 1974 to October 1981 by the Specialist Division of British Leyland. The car was launched in the United States in January 1975, with its UK home market debut in May 1976 (huge American demand delayed the launch twice!)
The car, characterised by its "wedge" shape and swage line sweeping down from the rear wing to just behind the front wheel, was commonly advertised as: "the shape of things to come". During production, the TR did divide opinion but, like the Jaguar XJS, time has treated the car well and today good examples are highly prized and extremely rare
Some classics disappoint (and we view lots of these!) and others the quality simply speaks for itself – this is one of the latter….
The TR has been the subject of significant expenditure in recent years and is a real credit to the previous owners.
The bodyshell is one of the best we have seen – the owner indicated that the car has received a brand-new shell and there is no evidence of corrosion. The underside is super straight, and the bodywork is outstanding.
Mechanically the car has clearly received a lot of attention – we were advised the engine, gearbox & back axle have all been replaced. The TR recently completed a 2, 000mile road trip through France and I drove the car 260 miles back from Yorkshire – all completed without issue.
The 1998cc engine (based on the Triumph Dolomite 1850 with larger carbs) and the later 5 speed gearbox gives this car willing acceleration while the independent front suspension/ rear coils are excellent giving a really engaging drive – as you would expect for any self-respecting TR.
Like lots of classic car enthusiasts we were initially sceptical about the TR7 but she has absolutely endeared herself to us. This is a stunning looking car in every sense of the word.
