Original, right-hand-drive, UK-delivered examples of the Porsche 912 are exceptionally rare, but to find one that is short wheelbase with five green-dial dash, factory optional five-speed dogleg gearbox, with all matching numbers in its original Light Ivory colour and a Golde sunroof is almost the definition of hen’s teeth.
Offered for the first time on the open market since the 1990s, this 912 is possibly the ultimate find for a Porsche collector and an unmissable opportunity.
Built in November 1966 and delivered by AFN Isleworth to its first owner, architect Tibor Hubay on 9th December 1966, it is a very early 1967 model year car. Mechanically totally restored over the past few years with full engine, gearbox, suspension and steering rebuild and with bodywork refreshed, it retains extraordinary levels of originality throughout, including an almost entirely original interior.
The restoration was overseen by its current owner, a top concours judge. Weber carburettors, electronic distributor and electric fuel pumps have been added for driveability, but the original Solex carbs, mechanical fuel pump and distributor will be included in the sale.
A set of date-stamped Fuchs alloys with centre caps will be offered separately should the new owner want them.
The car comes with a stack of history and paperwork that includes Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, AFN Kardex print, old registration documents and stacks of bills and photographs showing the rebuild. It also has an owner’s manual, full toolkit and jack.
It has just been given a thorough shakedown, had its post-running-in oil change, and is ready to enjoy. Do not mistake this for one of the raft of cheap US imports; this is a very special car indeed.
