By the late 1920s, Triumph believed that you needed an extra 50cc to haul a sidecar around so Triumph added 10mm to the stroke of their Model N to increase capacity to 549cc for the 1929 model year. The Model NSD was added to the range in April 1928 of which some 4, 450 were produced. The 5. 49hp engine featured adjustable tappets, a decompressor on the right hand side of the crank case, a cable operated exhaust valve lifter, an aluminium piston, full floating gudgeon pin, and a roller-bearing big end. Prices in 1930 were £46/ 17/ 6 without lamps and horn, £48/ 17/ 6 with Lucas Acetylene lamps and horn, £52/ 12/ 6 with Lucas Magdyno Electric lamps and bulb horn. Chromium plating was a relatively substanital £2/ 2/- extra! Offered intelligently by Triumph, you could buy the NSD on a 'Pay-as-you-ride' plan with the basic model requiring an intial £11/ 19/ 6 deposit followed by twelve monthly payments of £3/ 15/-.
First registered in on the 21st October 1928, little is known about the early history that helped to preserve this fantastically original and rare Triumph NSD. The earliest record on file is that it was purchased by Mr F. Melling of Warrington in 1986, prior to being part of a private collection where it had remained for many years in dry storage. Purchased as a project for recommissioning in 2021, the vendor unfortunately suffered a stroke last year which has caused him to decide not to ride motorcycles again, hence why this fabulous NSD is now being offered to market. Now presented in non-running but complete original form, the vendor has advised that it 'shouldn't take long to get back on the road' with a few weekends work and should be a fabulous machine for the Banbury run, which it is of course eligible for. Offered with UK V5c, some MOTs from the mid 2000's and earlier V5's, 'SV 7276' will bring many hours of joy to any prospective future owner whether for a collection or for the avid rider who likes spannering.
