A unique JAP 500cc speedway-engined 'Rust Racer'
Many hours of work and ingenuity are evident in this bike
Supplied with a current V5C Registration Document
This fascinating 'special' has been put together by the vendor with the help of various specialists and friends, primarily to be displayed at a 'Bike Shed' show. The starting point was the engine, a JAP 500 speedway motor bought from a man who raced Cooper cars, then matched to a Norton gearbox, a rebuilt Lucas KD1 mag', an Amal carburettor and a special recirculating oil pump supplied by Speedway Services. All of this was then fitted into a BSA C11 frame, giving the bike its registration number and V5C, with a bespoke rigid rear subframe, single sprung saddle, rear mudguard and stainless steel inner fuel tank with a fibreglass outer. The oil tank has been custom-made from a JAP stationary engine - keeping the 'JAP' logo on the cap - and a Manx Norton-style fly screen fitted.
The rolling gear is completed with a pair of BSA front forks that have been upgraded by Paul Goff, a BSA QD rear wheel and what is thought to be a Metisse front hub, both on alloy rims with new tyres. The distinctive 'Rust Racer' paintwork has been completed by the vendor, with signwriting by John 'The Brush'. Now being sold due to the owner losing his workshop and storage space, there is still work to be done in finishing this project, especially connecting up the oil return system, but once completed it will make a unique machine.
