Hugely gratifying to find one of these rare Lanchester LA Saloons in such wonderfully restored condition.
It is somewhat hard to comprehend the extraordinary lengths the owner must have gone to produce such a wonderful example of what is a very rare car nowadays, notwithstanding the huge cost of this work, which far exceeded its value at the time and sadly again now.
Thankfully for some it's never about the end value but simply the joy of undertaking the actual process of restoration, which evidently it was for this gentleman, as it took something approaching 13 years to complete and cost from what I can deduce from the history file, in excess of £40, 000.... simply astonishing ! Incidentally, I've just come across a formal Insurance valuation date October 2015 for £50, 000 which certainly would not cover a similar endeavour today.
As you can see from the photographs, although it was finished in 2013, the Lanchester courtesy of having been only driven in dry conditions, used sparingly and stored properly remains in exceptional condition.
The car itself is nicely proportioned and certainly has great road presence; whilst taking the photos the shouts of 'lovely car, what is it' from passers-by and motorists alike, was very heartening. To be seated in a beautifully leather & wood clad pre-war interior is always enjoyable and particularly so here... better still to be driven, as the rear seats would compliment a Bentley of the same era!
The current owner, both a long standing Bentley owner and client of Ranmore's has enjoyed his ownership, but simply due 'anno domino' is gradually reducing his collection, in fact, I've just sold his equally lovely Bentley Azure.
There's a large history file including a DVD disc and photographs plus a large selection of invoices detailing its restoration along with a other written correspondence from the Daimler & Lanchester Owners Club verifying the identity of this 'Roadrider' model.
I would hazard a guess that those of you sufficiently interested to pick up the telephone and call me, will likely know a great deal more than I about this model and Lanchester's in general, that said, I would be very glad to help with any information you might require or better still, organise to show you the car which is garaged near Dorking in Surrey.
Please note the car has a pre-selector gearbox, this website only gives a manual or automatic option when uploading the car credentials !
