The TVR S2, introduced in 1989, was part of the British automaker TVR's "S Series" sports cars, which marked a return to traditional, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layouts for the company. The S2 was an evolution of the original TVR S1, sharing the same basic chassis and design but featuring refinements for better performance and comfort. Powered by a 2. 9-liter Ford Cologne V6 engine, the S2 delivered around 168 horsepower, providing strong performance in a lightweight body. Notably, it retained the classic TVR formula of a minimalist, driver-focused experience with distinctive styling and no modern driving aids. Produced until 1991, the S2 was a popular model in TVR's lineup and contributed to the revival of the brand, leading to further developments like the TVR Chimaera and Griffith.

We are pleased to offer this 1990 TVR S2 280S in pearlescent white with black leather interior. First registered in March 1990, the car was previously red but now sports a striking, heavily pearlised white paint job. The paint appears to have been finished to a good standard and presents well. TVRs are synonymous with bold paint choices and, whilst this is not a factory colour, it is very much in keeping with that ethos. Needless to say, it’s at its best in bright sunshine where it really comes alive. A pair of fresh-looking chrome mirrors and original alloys (free from kerbing) finish off the smart looking exterior. TVRs are lightweight, rear-wheel drive sports cars and inevitably benefit from good quality rubber, so its pleasing to see the wheels are wrapped in a matching set of Dunlop BluResponse tyres. Inside, the dash has been finished with a carbon fibre effect which has been continued on the steering wheel boss.

The car comes with a V5C but no history. The vendor tells us that he believes the car was home serviced by its former keepers, the last of which had it for some 7 years. We are grateful to the vendor for the following information:-

“The car had a full body off restoration in 2017 with a custom full respray. It then had a full engine rebuild in 2019. At the time, full suspension, brakes, clutch, seals, ball joints and more were done. All of the fuel lines are copper hard piped. Since owning the car I have serviced it and replace the diff mounts - it has wanted for nothing. The roof is in relatively good condition, does not leak and everything works as it should - including the electric windows etc.”

Whilst we may not have paperwork in respect of the restoration, we do have a photographic record. Any potential buyer of a TVR should be enquiring about the condition of the chassis outriggers and these photos show the extent of the work to the chassis, which was refurbished and painted.

The car was driven some 90 miles to us by the vendor - not a journey you would undertake in a TVR unless you knew it was in good mechanical order. Another TVR trait is a fantastic soundtrack and in that regard this S2 doesn’t disappoint. All in, this is a strong and eye-catching example of Blackpool’s hairy-chested roadster and promises to be an inexpensive route into TVR ownership.
