Description
This is one very special MG TF 1500 having had a staggering £73, 000 full nut and bolt restoration between 2014-2016. Further to this, almost £5000 was spent in 2022 for a five speed gearbox conversion taking expenditure closer to £80, 000. This beautifully rebuilt car has covered around 2000 miles since completion, and had been with its last owner for 39 years. This US specification car was built on the 23rd November 1954, registered in California in 1955 where is stayed until import into the UK in 2014. The MG was purchased by its long term owner in 1985 when he resided in California, and then shipped the car from Los Angeles to Southampton ahead of its full rebuild.
The MG was taken to Robin Lackford Engineering in Sussex and comprehensive invoices are on file for the work between 2014-2016 totalling £73, 000. Mechanically the MG was subject to a full engine rebuild, gearbox rebuild, rear axle rebuild, overhauled starter motor and dynamo, brand new stainless steel exhaust, new wiring loom, new steering rack, poly bushed and rebuilt suspension, renewed brake, cooling and fuel systems amongst thousands of pounds worth of new parts. The body was removed from the chassis, both specialist sand blasted and rebuilt, then beautifully re-painted. The MG was built up with renewed chrome, a full interior re-trim and new rubbers, trims, seals, new windscreen, weather gear and many, many other new parts all detailed in the history file.
Since this very impressive restoration the MG has been well maintained by its restorer and further enhanced for long distance touring with a five speed gearbox conversion. This transforms the car for cruising, it is ideal for on the continent overseas touring and having nicely run in since its major rebuild, the car offers huge confidence as a strong, reliable and proven car. We have never seen an MG TF that has had this level of expenditure and as result this offers somewhat of an unrepeatable opportunity to buy one of the very best.
