Renault's innovative 16 introduced the 'hatchback' bodystyle to the mid-size saloon market although the term was not coined until some time later
This smart example is the oldest surviving R16 in the country and one of around 50 currently active here
One of the first registered in the UK 06/ 04/ 1966, it was with its first owner for 18 months. Its second owner used it for ten years then put it in a garage for 35 years
It was rescued from there in 2013 by members of the Renault Car Club and sympathetically recommissioned retaining the original interior, bodywork, engine and gearbox
In 2015 it starred on the Renault stand at the NEC Classic Car Show and in 2020 was featured in the Daily Telegraph
