From new Anthony Crook then one of the leading Bristol distributors entered in many sports’ car races including Goodwood pictured above. The car was then sold at some point in the late 1950’s to an unknown owner until Crook purchased it back and commissioned a full restoration which includes Crook’s colour specification for the car, which is still featured today, even the chromed wheels. 404/ 2042 stayed with the late Anthony Crook until a very late age.

404/ 2042 is now fitted with the Bristol 100/ B2 type engine rather than the original 100B. The gearbox has been fitted with overdrive and the original front drum brakes have been converted to disc brakes. Other upgrades made by Crook include reclining seats, electric windows and modified gauges.

The current owner of the car has carried out various restoration work throughout the car, most recently a full bare metal respray by Mitchell Motors.

ANTHONY CROOK

1920-2014

It’s said that Crook decided to enter motorsport at the age of six, he carried this thought on through his education at Clifton, Bristol, and later Cambridge. He entered racing and enjoyed a long a fruitful career that would end in him briefly competing in Formula 1. A crash at Goodwood with Stirling Moss driving a Porsche in 1955 saw him decide to retire, but by this time his company, Anthony Crook Motors, was already an established dealer and going from strength to strength. He was one of the largest Bristol distributors by this time as he was heavily involved with the Bristol Car company even in his racing days.

Crook became a part owner of the Bristol Car Company in 1960 along side Sir George White (founding family of Bristol Aero Company) thus playing a pivotal role in the partnership with Chrysler who provided the V8 engines for the 407 type Bristol onwards.
