The XJ-6 was the last Jaguar designed by company founder William Lyons, and it was a fine balance of refinement, luxury, and performance. Handling was superb for a four-door sedan. When the XJ6 launched in 1968, it garnered almost universal acclaim as the most beautiful car in the world. The car's gorgeous shape endured in production until 1979, and its lithe elegance has influenced every Jaguar since. The signature 4. 2-liter DOHC six-cylinder engine delivered 180 hp and was matched with anti-dive suspension, power rack-and-pinion steering, power disc brakes, and either an automatic or manual 4-speed transmission with overdrive. Inside there were leather seats, walnut fascias, and enough gauges for a small plane.
This Jaguar XJ6L is the last year for the classic sedan styling initiated in 1968. Less than 1, 000 XJ6 Jaguars were produced in 1979, making it quite rare. This car also featured fuel injection for this first time in the Jaguar sedan lineup. The 4. 2 liter six cylinder is a very reliable and smooth running power plant that had its origin in the 1949 Jaguar XK 120. The "L" model was the longer wheelbase giving 4 more inches in overall length. This stunningly handsome Jaguar sedan has exceptionally low mileage of just 30k. The incredibly original interior is in as new condition with nearly perfect wood dash, virtually unworn leather upholstery, and carpeting.
