Here we are very proud to offer, the worlds only VR38DETT powered Mitsubishi Evolution.
Yes – a Mitsubishi Evo which is powered by an R35 GTR engine, running 1062whp (approx 1250bhp at the flywheel)!
The phrase ‘not for the faint hearted’ tends to be over used, but in this case it is quite fitting.
1 of 1 in the world

History
We all have crazy ideas floating around in our heads, but it is not very often that them ideas become a reality.
This is where respect must be given to Conrad (armchairtuner), because having previously had various fast Mitsubishi Evo’s, Conrad pondered the thought of a VR38DETT engine’d Evo.
For most, that is where the story would end, however Conrad decided to make it a reality.
The brief was, to build a car that is not a one trick pony, so this car can be setup for drag (with a chute, drag slicks, spoiler & splitter removed) or indeed circuit, which is with all the aero in place & the drivers net fitted, or maybe even top speed events/ roll races or drift.
Years of work, development, fabrication, modification & the finished article is what you see here. This car is dripping in the very best of the best in terms of specification, which is far too much to list here unfortunately but read below to understand just some of the specification.
This project has taken many years to complete & is, (as far as anyone knows) the only one of its kind in the world.
Body & Paintwork
The shell is a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8, which has had extensive fabrication work completed for fitment of the VR38DETT engine. This took a lot of design work as Conrad wanted excellent weight distribution.
An aluminium Evo 9 roof skin has been used, as well as a carbon fibre boot lid & bonnet with aero catches for both the boot & bonnet (as well as the front bumper).
An Aerokit bodykit is fitted, consisting of front wings, front bumper & rear arches, with the whole car being finished in a custom metallic purple which looks great in our opinion.
The front bumper is finished with a APT time attack front splitter with aluminium mounting kit.
A C-West R35 GTR carbon rear spoiler with a custom chassis mounted frame can be removed easily & a drag parachute fitted (which is set up with release cable & interior launch handle in the cabin).
It is fair to say the car grabs attention wherever it goes!
Interior & Trim
Performance & functionality have been at the forefront of design here.
Plastic windows, Cobra bucket seats on WRE mounting frames, with 5 point harnesses, a removable steering wheel with snap off boss & button control plate, Tilton pedal box set, plus a custom cages multipoint roll cage is just us scratching the surface here.
As can be seen in the pictures, the car has a Motec C125 dash, this compliments the Motec M1 ECU, Motec CAN keypad centre console, all wired in using motorsport spec looms.
Obviously also inside is the fire suppression system, the hydraulic handbrake (as well as normal cable handbrake) & the sequential shifter.
The seating position is further back than a standard Evo, this is due to the custom fabricated firewall being set back for engine placement which was all part of the design for excellent weight distribution.
All the adjustments to boost, traction, launch control, anti-lag & much more are just at your fingertips.
Engine
Not only does this Evo house a VR38DETT engine, but the engine is of a huge specification.
The engine is a 2022 Race Developments built 4. 1L, using an ETS 4. 1 stroker kit, ETS conrods, Mahle TS 2022 spec pistons & Bryant stroker crank.
Race developments cylinder heads, 2022 spec with oversize valves, uprated springs & retainers with GSC camshafts. Also used is a Race developments ported stock inlet (upper & lower).
Injectors are ID1300X, which are fed by a fuel cell in the boot with 2x 1000hp fuel pumps & custom fuel feed & return lines with aluminium fittings.
Precision 6466 turbo’s have been used along with Turbosmart wastegates – using custom exhaust pipework to a motorcycle silencer.
The exhaust system itself is also obviously custom with a single side exit either side.
Everything is kept cool by an ETS race intercooler, modified with wiggins style boost clamps top & bottom, (integrated Turbosmart BOV’s on the hot side), along with a custom radiator & custom WRE aluminium intercooler pipework.
The car has 10 boost settings, with dyno graph showing 1 being 660whp & 10 being 1062whp.
The car also has adjustable launch control, adjustable diff settings (full rwd to locked awd) & adjustable traction control.
Running Gear
This is where a lot of the questions come from people who first see the car.
So the car is using a Hollinger 6 speed sequential gearbox (absolute joy to operate), with a Tilton multi plate carbon clutch.
The rear diff is a Toyota unit fitted with OS Giken LSD, the front is an R35 GTR unit with OS Giken LSD, NTG CWP (custom ratio) & Linney billet case. A Skyline transfer case is used, which is also fully built with extra preload, along with a modified Skyline front propshaft & custom rear propshaft. All driveshafts are SGS custom items, which then meet modified Evo 8 hubs to accommodate the larger shafts.
The suspension is Nitron R3 front & rear, with custom drop links, HR anti roll bar on the rear & of course tubular subframes both front & rear.
Alcon brakes have been used all around & the car does have line lock for warming the rear tyres should you need/ wish to. Custom brake line shave been made & the car has a cable handbrake as well as a STM hydraulic staging brake.
This is only really highlights of the specification & a full specification can be sent across on request.
This car is sold as a Motorsport vehicle (not a road car) and no warranty is given due to the nature of a motorsport vehicle.
The car is road registered.
