Description
The last model based on the original Marcos shape, this late model Mantula, featuring a number of upgrades over earlier cars, provides classic looks with modern usability. This example, registered in 2011 on a Q-prefix, presents extremely well. Recently subjected to significant expenditure with us, the car is now fitted with a low mileage, Marcos-sourced 3. 9L V8, a modern Mazda MX5 gearbox and a rebuilt Atlas axle.
The drivetrain provides a superb driving experience, the 3. 9L V8 providing noticeably more torque than the original 3. 5L unit. The well-renowned NB gearbox gives a slick gearchange and, in conjunction with the axle, ideal ratios for both A-road fun and motorway cruising. In addition to the uprated drivetrain, this Mantula is fitted with an aluminium fuel tank, larger capacity radiator and adjustable Protech dampers.
Cosmetically, this is a unique car: a one-off body with a swathe of modifications; later Mantara-style rear light units; modern headlamp units, far superior to the original types for night time driving; and 15″ Minilite wheels.
On the inside, the magnolia leather is in good condition, complimented by blue pipework and carpets and well as a traditional wooden dashboard. In addition to a modern radio head-unit and a USB charge port, this Mantula is fitted with all of Marcos’ usual features, including electric windows and an adjustable pedal box.
