When it arrived on the scene in 2016 the 981 GT4 was described as “the ultimate driver’s Porsche” and “the Cayman we’ve all been waiting for”
The first Porsche Motorsport derived Cayman was available in only limited numbers (about 50 only for the UK) all of which were sold before hitting the ground.
It was the first road-going Cayman designed and engineered in Weissach, home of Porsche’s ‘Motorsportzentrum’, where Porsche’s racing cars and GT-badged 911s are developed and tested. As a result, the GT4’s pedigree is impeccable. And tantalisingly so, containing as it does elements of high-end Porsches – from GT3 to 918 – along the way. It is nothing less than the greatest expression yet of what a Cayman can be.
The Cayman GT4 shares its power source with the 911 Carrera S - a 3. 8-litre Powerkit unit with 380bhp matched to a six-speed manual gearbox. The benchmark 0-62mph sprint now passes in 4. 4 seconds and top speed is 183mph.
To quote Autocar – “The Cayman is one of those rare things, a five-star car, one that has everything relevant going for it and nothing of note to go against it”
