The E92 M3 represents a significant period in BMW’s history, bridging the gap between the old-school, analog driving experience and the modern, tech-heavy performance cars. As car culture now increasingly looks back at “modern classics,” the E92 stands out as a symbol of a bygone era of automotive excellence.
It’s one of our favourites, and for good reason. It’s the only M3 to feature a V8 engine and the last generation with a naturally aspirated powerplant. The 4. 0 V8 is a high-revving gem, producing 414 horsepower and capable of reaching 8, 400 RPM. Derived from the S85 V10 found in the E60 M5, it shares key components and design elements, including individual throttle bodies and a rev-happy nature.
The coupe is the most sought-after body style, featuring a carbon fibre roof that reduces weight and lowers the centre of gravity—enhancing handling performance. This feature feels ahead of its time even today.
It was among the first BMWs to feature the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), offering faster and smoother gear changes. While we appreciate a manual, the DCT is perfectly suited for this car, delivering shifts that are both timely and engaging, even by modern standards.

Mechanically, this M3 is sound. Maintenance has been carried out on schedule, with recent rod bearing replacement by renowned RD Automotive, providing added peace of mind. The suspension and geometry are perfect, and the DCT operates smoothly.
