Description
1956 Jaguar XK140 FHC 3. 4
Manufactured on 17th of February 1956 this RHD home market XK140 FHC is quite a rare model with only 842 being built. Finished in its original colours of Birch-Grey with Red Connolly hide. Supplied to its first owner via C. H. Truman & Co Ltd (Nottingham), to Sydney Harold Coggins of Radcliffe on Trent. The car eventually being shipped to Australia in 1986.
The XK140 was a huge improvement on the previous XK120. Moving the engine froward increased the interior cabin space and tamed the vehicles handling. The adoption of rack and pinion steering, first seen on the Jaguar XK120 C Type racing cars, was also a big step forward. Power is supplied by the wonderful 3. 4 litre XK twin overhead cam engine. The same engine used in the 1950’s Le Mans winning Jaguars.
This lovely older restoration has superb leather, walnut veneers, carpets and wool cloth headlining. The chrome work is excellent and the body and chassis in sound condition. The paintwork is quite presentable but not to concours standard. The cars runs and drives as it should. The car has been well serviced and benefits from new chrome wire wheels, shod with new period correct Michelin X tyres. And a new brake master cylinder. The engine has had the crankshaft rear main oil seal upgraded to a modern lip seal. New SE specification front spot lamps complete the look.
This wonderful old Jaguar has so much charm, style and practicality. Perfect for touring and Jaguar club rallies.
The car is located in Sydney Australia
