Description
We are proud to offer beautiful piece of TVR’s motor-sporting history, the Grantura MK IV. This car, chassis number 001, is one of approximately 70 MK IVs produced, and was the first car built following the Lilley’s takeover of TVR in 1966. Built as a works car, it was used as a demonstrator and occasionally raced by Barnet Motor Company, who enlisted such drivers as the late Gerry Marshall and Tony Lafranchi to race it, competing at Brands Hatch 500km and many club races, until being sold to a Peter Clarke in 1967, who then raced it at the Nurburgring 1000km. Subsequently, the car was later bought and raced by Mary Wheeler, the founder of the BWRDC. Since then, the car has gone through some modification, but spending most of its life in storage.
This low-mileage example was recently substantially restored by Willie Green, with the chassis being found in a remarkably well-preserved condition and remains original for that reason. All the running gear has been rebuilt, and has had all the safety equipment renewed. It was also fitted with a Denis Welch 1850 MGB engine with an aluminium cross flow head, producing around 170hp.
The car comes with FIA HTP papers valid until the end of 2025, and is eligible and ready to compete in many brilliant classic championships, along with hill climbs which it has also competed in. There is also a large history of work and documentation with the car.
