Dellows were made in Alvechurch between 1949 and 1959 and approximately 300 were built in all of which around half survive. it was made as a “competition” car which could be raced, trialled, rallied or used for sprints. All Dellows made use of many Ford components and were always sold as complete cars.
Ostensibly a trials car but actually a small competition car that was very good at trials. In the early`50s a Dellow won the Circuit of Ireland Rally twice and also the Daily Express Round Britain Rally (later the RAC) which were both on tarmac. Virtually all Dellows are different in that they were built to individual spec. and modified to current motorsport pursuits.
This Dellow, one of the best there is, was bought by the present owner in 1966 and has, as can be seen in the pictures, been used as a wedding car, trials car, rally car and touring car. During that time it has been loved and cherished but now needs a new owner to continue enjoying it`s varied capabilities owing to his advancing years.
The car is fitted with a correct Ford 100e engine with twin Su`s and a free flow exhaust system and it runs on unleaded fuel.
The engine was rebuilt in 2013 with a full flow oil cooler and filter. A highly polished head, a relieved block with solid skirt pistons and Carillo style rods from Farndon complete the spec.
The gearbox is a Ford 3 speed.
Backaxle is high ratio Ford at 4. 7:1
Brakes are cable operated with 9 inch drums.
The body is aluminium with small diameter steel tube frame.
A meticulously maintained Dellow owned by an expert in the marque and now available at £21, 000
