We have known TJU 486N for almost ten years and have supplied the car to its last two, very happy owners. The MGB left the factory in April of 1974, finished in Citron with Black interior trim, Rostyle wheels and overdrive and was distributed by Lookers Limited of Manchester for the RHD Home Market. MOT’s date back to when the car was 11 years old in 1985 and by the mid 1990’s the MGB was ready for light restoration and re-commissioning work. Having been kept on the road for most of its life and having the benefit of regular use and upkeep, the MGB has never required a major nut and bolt rebuild having stayed away from neglect during its earlier years.
When the car first came to us in 2015 it had the feel of an incredibly original, correct car. With paintwork tiring, we carried out an outer bodyshell strip down and complete re-paint ahead of supplying it for the first time. This owner in Teesside kept the MGB for five years and covered around 1000 faultless miles in the car.
When the car returned to us in 2020, we reported that over the past five years the MG had required no major work, had been a true delight to own and had proven totally reliable. This time but four years on we can say exactly the same, the MGB has once again been thoroughly enjoyed and has been a delight to own. A host of invoices are on file for annual servicing and recommendations that have all been carried out. The MGB has covered approaching 1500 miles since 2020 and has been driven over to us from West Yorkshire once again performing superbly,
On the road TJU 486N is excellent with impressive handling and excellent brakes. The car feels tight on the road with a superb road holding. The engine feels strong, delivers impressive power and holds very good oil pressure. The four speed gearbox feels slick and the overdrive comes in and out smoothly. The MG has a structurally excellent, straight bodyshell and the paint finish nine years on is still outstanding. The finish gleams, gaps are excellent, and the MG has a first class hood, smart chrome and an excellent set of chrome wire wheels. The engine bay and boot are very well presented so this is an example that will not look out of place at local shows, but will no doubt prove an excellent weekend touring car that will continue to demonstrate reliability as it has with its last two owners.
