History of the BMW E30 Convertible
It was not until 1985 that BMW presented a fully-fledged 4-seater convertible again at the IAA in Frankfurt after years of abstinence. For many customers, this was the crowning glory of the 3 Series and today's cult vehicle.
The 80s style of the bodywork, which is considered cool today, is generally regarded as one of the most beautiful lines, and the entire series is now allowed to carry the historic licence plate. With the 318i (1. 8 litre), 320i (2. 0 litre), 325i (2. 5 litre) and the sporty M3 Cabriolet (2. 3 litre), BMW has achieved a great success and ultimately it doesn't matter which model is used to conquer the landscape - these models are always a guarantee for a fresh air experience and driving pleasure. The first truly open 3 Series convertibles all take the BMW slogan "Driving pleasure" to heart. High-torque, light and easy to handle and with a pleasant design, the 3 Series convertibles glide along the roads.
The open-top four-seater cabriolet remained essentially true to its line throughout its entire construction period from 1986 to 1993. The design is characterised by its clear and straight lines and has no annoying roll bar. The 3 Series Cabriolets were given torsional stability and safety by means of elaborate body fittings. The windscreen frame, floor assembly and door sills have been reinforced. The three-layer soft top of the 3 Series E30 Cabriolets disappears completely under a flap between the rear seat bench and the boot, yet with a volume of over 300 litres it still offers enough space for an extended holiday. The 113 hp 1. 8 litre four-cylinder variant is offered here. This is a two-valve engine with an overhead camshaft. This BMW has always been well maintained and has been passed down through the family several times. The papers lists 4 owners, but in reality only two families have used it. The degree of wear and tear on the steering wheel, the as-new but original interior, the engine and, in fact, the entire vehicle, allow only the certainty that the kilometres shown on the odometer correspond to the actual mileage. The paintwork is still original in many areas, the boot lid has been given a new clear coat. The engine runs very smoothly, does not leak oil and the gearbox shifts precisely. The interior and the upholstery of the seats are in almost mint condition. This BMW will be completely checked by us before delivery. New MOT and confirmation of registration as a classic car for a separate expense allowance.
Summary
The E30 Cabrio is a cruiser model for gliding briskly through the countryside. The extremely robust and durable M40 engine (four-cylinder) is hardly a cause for concern if it has been regularly serviced as in this vehicle and the gearbox generally lasts longer than the engines. The spare parts supply from BMW is exemplary and spare parts are reasonably priced. A beautifully designed, timeless and elegant BMW classic.
