An electric version of VW’s small hatchback ‘the Up!’ arrived on the scene in 2013 boasting a 60 KW motor which fed an 18. 6 kwh battery integrated into the small hatchback floor pan. Sharing its body with the conventional petrol power version allowed engineers to alter the front end whilst discreetly locating the charging point within the right hand rear quarter panel. Updated in 2019 the current model offers increased range due to an uprated Lithium-ion battery. Capacity has been almost doubled, from 18. 7 to 36. 8 kwh, of which 32. 3 kwh comprise usable energy and with consumption figures of 12kwm per 100klms the projected range increased to 162 miles from fully charged. Direct current from the optional CCS charging connection allows for a recharge up to 80 percent in a single hour. Alternatively, a 7. 2 kW socket can charge to the same 80 percent in a little over four hours. The e-Up! is powered by an electric motor that delivers 83 peak horsepower and 212 Nm of torque, with manufacturer figures to 62 mph in 11. 9 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 81mph. No less than three different driving profiles and five energy recovery levels are available. Considering this Up was one of VW groups first true City Cars the interior dimensions will surprise and impress, the boot floor is deep (250 litres) and the rear seats fold for increased capacity; the rear leg and head room is excellent allowing for 4 adults to travel in relative comfort. Plenty of options are included as standard, parking sensors, lane warning system plus climate control and smart phone connection.
Whilst Country Classic Cars may not seem the most obvious outlet for a modern electric vehicle this VW Up! is not the first EV we have been requested to sell. Again, a commission sale on behalf of a regular client we must confess to being surprised with the road manners displayed by this small VW. On the road the E-Up! obviously works best around town, the light steering and nippy acceleration help to make light work of the worst congestion. That said we also found the ride can deal with poorer surfaces whilst offering ample feedback when ‘making progress’ on country lanes and along faster B roads.

The VW manufacturer’s warranty runs until November 2024 after which and extended (VW) used car warranty takes over until March 2025. Also, a service plan runs until December 2026 with MOT insurance remaining on this car until Feb 2025.
At Country Classic Cars we find it’s best to present a ‘warts and all’ detailed write up of any classic we are requested to sell. This helps to avoid ‘buyer’s remorse’ especially for those purchasing from abroad or interested parties travelling distances to view. No doubt the Deep Black Pearl finish gives the E Up! a grown-up look and this is certainly a clean example with just two very small hairline scratches noted, one on the o/ s rear edge of the boot spoiler and another at the very rear of the bonnet. A minor kerb mark was found on the o/ s front alloy wheel rim completes the exterior blemishes whilst the interior trim is difficult to fault. Grey seat covers are unmarked and compliment the black carpets (protected by factory overmats) and trim with the dash top improved with a futuristic carbon look.
