Description
This is a really interesting part exchange classic 4x4. It will suit somebody looking for a really usable early Land Rover suitable for regular use. The previous owner of this vehicle has used it as his daily driver. It is a modified 86 which will not suit the purist, but makes for a very practical Landy.
The engine is a military spec 2. 25 Litre petrol unit which sounds great and performs really well. The drivetrain has been replaced with the five speed set up and permanent four-wheel-drive of a Land Rover. 90. It still has leaf spring suspension all round, so externally the vehicle does not appear modified.
Mechanically it is very good but there is a little too much play on the steering box for our liking. This may respond to adjustment or possibly need a steering box overhaul. The five speed gearbox is quiet in all forward gears and the synchros work. Reverse gear has a little chatter commensurate with a chipped gear tooth. The fitted hardtop is a very valuable ex-AA unit and there is also a soft top and frame.
It's a super early Land Rover which has driven up to North Yorkshire from Derbyshire and we think at this price it's a real bargain!
