In 1989, the Lotus M100 Elan was released. The car was designed by Peter Stevens, who was also responsible for restyling the Lotus Esprit.
The Lotus M100 Elan used a fast 1588cc engine from Isuzu . That had a double camshaft, 16 valves and a turbocharger, good for a power output of 132 hp.
The idea of a front-wheel-drive Lotus paired with an Isuzu engine and a five-speed gearbox was very progressive. This also became the only front-wheel drive model, all models after the M100 Elan were rear-wheel drive again.
In 1992, Elan production was stopped due to the poor economic situation at the time.
In 1996 and 1997, Kia Motors still built the Elan under licence as "Kia Elan" for the local Korean market with an 1800 cc 151 hp engine. Some of these Kia Elan models found their way to Europe.
‘Collection by Vermant’ is pleased to offer you one of these rare examples. Originally, the Roadster was not available in Europe and was only built for the Korean home market. However, a German Kia dealer was so charmed by the model that they purchased a new one in Korea and then brought it to Germany. The car was then registered there in September 2000. Over the years, the car has only been driven sporadically, which is reflected in the low mileage of 18, 000km and also the fantastic condition of the car. In 2018, it then came to Belgium and subsequently registered.
Only about 1, 000 examples were ever produced of this Korean thoroughbred and in only a handful of colours. The example here is finished in one of the more striking colours. Despite its age, the car's paintwork is still in beautiful condition and immediately catches the eye. The yellow colour also gives the car a fun and sporty look and also gives it a timeless appeal. Where some Roadster have been stripped of their original Kia logos over the years, and fitted with Lotus badges, this Roadster is still completely original. Besides the original Kia logo on the front, we also find the iconic Pop-Up headlights that were not to be missed from a sports car at that time.
Not only the exterior of this Roadster, but also the interior is still in absolute top condition. The car has seats finished in leather on the outside and a very trendy fabric in the middle, which again emphasises the playful and sporty character of the car. Besides contemporary conveniences such as electric windows and heated mirrors, this Roadster is still equipped with its original Alpine audio system with Cassette. Over the years, these systems are often exchanged for more modern ones, which takes away from the originality. The presence of this system also nicely shows how the car has been cared for over the years and has not been neglected by previous owners.
