Description
We are delighted to bring to market this fabulous example of the Lotus Elite, Type 14, Series 2 from 1962 #1906.
Sold originally in the UK on 29/ 06/ 1962 to Mr. H. Radcliffe under the Components banner, it later surfaced in the US in the 1990’s and after which was sent back over to Europe having been sold to Germany in 1996, swiftly followed by a purchase in 1997 by Kees Houtzager in the Netherlands, who wrote a technical addendum on the car utilising #1906 as his reference, so a well travelled car.
During his ownership Kees, along with the well-known Horst Auer, upgraded the rear suspension set-up to be rose jointed trailing arms and the lovely sealed bearing conversion for the rear bearings, all of which have the original invoices and are both the modern, useability suspension upgrades that we highly recommend for modern day driving.
Kees also installed a new aluminium petrol tank, electric cooling fan, oil cooler and a new, extra fused, wiring loom. Today the car sits on 72 spoke Borranies and Pirelli Cinturano’s resulting in a fantastic overall package.
Although not matching to the original paperwork, the engine is a period correct FWE on Webers, which has had the staged FAW3020 cam exchanged for a more standard version to improve the driveability in modern traffic conditions and benefits from a 5-speed gearbox conversion, again adding to its useability, and where the original MG C/ R gearbox comes with the car should the new owner wish to revert it back to its original set-up.
As can be seen in the photos, the car carries an older restoration well with a beautiful deep white paintwork and with 12, 200 miles only on the odometer, would suggest little or light used over the years, but which cannot be authenticated and prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves of the condition of the car, should that area be of significance.
The current owner has had the car since 2023 and is currently based in the Netherlands, having purchased it off Kees and only now brings it back to market as although loving the car, being Europe based, is looking for a LHD version.
A beautiful example, with a known more recent history from the 1990's, in beautiful condition with all the upgrades making it an eminently more driveable car in the modern road and traffic conditions and in our opinion, very sensibly priced for the overall condition and package the car presents.
Viewing is by appointment only in the Netherlands and can be arranged through ourselves.
The car has been reduced by instruction of the owner and is now very competitively priced to sell, along with offers being invited. Please contact us for details.
