The first 911s were thus introduced into this championship, which was created in 1987. Produced in just 297 examples between 1990 and 1993, this version was specially designed for racing and very few models were homologated for the road. Based on the 964 Carrera 2, the 964 Cup features a number of significant technical differences. It is powered by an M64/ 03 engine developing 265 bhp, an increase of 15 bhp on the standard version. For safety and stability, it includes a welded roll bar, bucket seats and 6-point harnesses. The chassis has been modified, with ground clearance lowered by 55mm, and the steering is not power-assisted. Porsche has also reduced the weight by eliminating the door panels, soundproofing and rear seats, resulting in a weight of just 1, 120 kg.
This model is one of the few to be approved for road use. It arrived in France in 2017. Its FFSA technical passport makes it eligible for a number of historic races, including the Masters Endurance Legends, the Endurance Racing Legends, Le Mans Classic and the Gulf Classic.
