In the early 1980's Leyland South Africa worked alongside local firm Carvalette (leaders in the sunroof and convertible top market at the time) to develop this super rare Convertible Mini. It was an officially approved conversion on new and unregistered 1275E models and only sold through the top selected Leyland main dealers in the network. It was the highest priced Mini ever sold in that market at 35% higher than the standard model it was based on.
It is thought that less than 50 cars were sold over the short two year period it was available until the entire Mini range was withdrawn from sale in 1984. Just a handful of cars remain making it a highly desirable Mini for the collector.
We have recently imported this example from inland Gauteng Province and having spent it's life there it is in fantastic original and rust free structural condition. It has been repainted at some point over the years in the attractive original blue colour.
Mechanically the 1275cc engine runs on twin SU carbs giving very strong performance and a real fun drive. We have recommissioned the car and given it a service, new brakes and other parts have been replaced where necessary.
The interior is not completely original, the seats are aftermarket replacements and some minor fettling/ cosmetic improvements could be made in this area to the seats, dash etc to take it to the next level.
The vinyl hood is in excellent condition with no rips or tears.
UK registered, MOT exempt and tax exempt from April 2025.
