Description
The Aston Martin DB5 is often referred to as "the most famous car in the world". Since appearing in the James Bond films Goldfinger and Thunderball, it has become a schoolboy's dream for many. In evolutionary terms, a DB5 is a DB4 Series V with a 4. 0-litre engine and 'Superleggera' bodywork slightly restyled by Carrozzeria Touring Milano.
From its launch in July 1963, the DB5 received widespread praise, not least for its performance. At the time, the DB5 was one of the fastest cars available, with a top speed of 148mph. Production, however, was relatively short-lived, ending in September 1965 after 1, 021 units had been built. Of this limited run, only 123 were DB5 Cabriolets and the straight-drive example we have here for sale is one of the very last Aston Martin DB5 Cabriolets ever produced.
After spending a few years in the UK, this DB5 Cabriolet was exported to Australia where it remained for 23 years. Following its return to the UK in 1988, the beautiful British car underwent a three-year restoration valued at £90, 000. Finished in Black Pearl with burgundy interior, this exceptional Aston Martin is offered in very good condition and comes with a very rare hardtop.
The current owner, a passionate Belgian lady, received the convertible in 1993 and has kept it for over three decades. Registered as an Oldtimer, the DB5 has a FIVA card and has taken part in a number of prestigious motoring events. This Aston Martin has been cherished as a collector's item and regularly maintained. It has only been driven on special occasions and to date has accumulated a total of 93, 750 miles. When not in use, the DB5 has always been stored in a dry garage.
The car is accompanied by a substantial history file, containing the original owner's manual, a copy of the Aston Martin build sheet, a photographic presentation of the bodywork restoration and all service invoices for the last thirty years.
It is not often that we have the chance to offer a superb example of the rare and coveted DB5 Cabriolet, beautifully presented in a very stylish colour combination. Only 81 Aston Martins DB5Cs were built in right-hand drive, and this one comes with its rare hardtop. Connoisseurs will recognise this as a unique investment opportunity. Interested?
